About

My full name is Allan Cole Roberts, but I'm more commonly referred to as Cole.

In 2009 I founded Nordica Photography. Nordica is based out of Vancouver and focuses on weddings, events, headshots and portraits.

I work with Jakob Granqvist, who I met at business school in Sweden.

This blog is totally personal, and who knows what I'll put up day to day.

But one thing's for certain, there will always be photography in the mix.

VW Bug Hastings Street

This car is interesting eh? Not really.

The interesting thing about it is where it’s located. It’s located in an empty parking lot across the street from the Army & Navy Store on Hastings Street. If you know where this is, then you probably realize it’s not the rosiest of areas in Vancouver.

But this car remains untouched. I’ve walked past it dozens of times and it’s always in the same parking lot, and always untouched. No broken windows and nary a scratch.

I guess people who vandalize things in the area like Volkswagens!

Maybe people who vandalize in the area know German and know that Volkswagen translates to People’s Car:)

Adolf Hitler and Volkswagen

Sitting at a restaurant table in Munich in the summer of 1932, Hitler designed the prototype for what would become the immensely successful Beetle design for Volkswagen (literally, the “car of the people”). In an era where only the most economic elite possessed cars, Hitler believed that all people should be able to own a car and additionally thought that a smart design could allow for reliability, enjoyment, and vacation travel. The name given to the car in 1938 was Kraft durch Freude (KdF-Wagen, literally “strength through joy car”).

Hitler gave his design to the head of Daimler-Benz, Jakob Werlin, and stressed its importance. “Take it with you and speak with people who understand more about it than I do. But don’t forget it. I want to hear from you soon, about the technical details.”

If Hitler wasn’t the worst human in the history of humans, that’d be way cooler, but nonetheless this is super awesome facts! Thanks hoser!
