Random Links | Twitter Love

Barn-and-the-Wheel-Barrow

Mr Hummingbird 604 himself, better known as Raul Pacheco, has an interesting and random insertion in his blogs that I liked: Random linkage up to other blogs. I liked the idea and thought I’d put my Linky-McLink hat on and try it out.

So, here are some random blogs, photos, whatever that are out there right now that are catching my Twitter’in eye. As I’m in Sweden right now, I’ve been following Twitter happenings back home (Vancouver) and here are some standout things since I’ve been here. Gotta’ love that Twitter is how I’m keeping up to speed these days!

- Kris Krug‘s totally raising the ‘live blogging’ bar with his domination of the Copenhagen conferences. Basically, he’s combined photo journalism, stellar photography, and social media, put into into his palm and mashed it into a a new standard in citizen journalism. It’s been fun to follow his take on the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Denmark.

- NBC has totally ripped off – literally – an article written by Rebecca Bolwitt (AKA Miss 604). We’re talking no credit, copy and paste, totally ignorant stealing. Anyways, they stole an article she wrote for Tourism BC and placed it – word for word – on their NBC site. If you’d like to read about it, check out Raincoaster‘s writeup on it. Pretty spot on roundup.

*Post Update* I stand corrected – Stealing is the wrong word to use. Please read the comments on this post and Raincoasters!

- Jakob Granqvist and my contest (via Nordica) is nearing it’s end. We’ve been shamelessly promoting it and the contest closes Christmas Eve. So why am I writing this in this post? Well through Twitter, it’s received over 70 entries and people are emailing us constantly about the contest. As we’re based out of Vancouver, that’s Vancouver Twitter news in my book!

- Rick Rake and Tyler Ingram are the nicest guys I’ve never met. Solid guys to follow on Twitter (@rickrake @tyleringram)

- The Vancouver 12×12 Photo Marathon (12 hours, 12 themes, 12 exposures) seemed like a rad event and next time they host one, you better believe Jakob and I are in there! We left the day before it began, but holy hell what a cool event! The event seemed like the mother of fun photography-related networking events, and good on the folks who put it on!

- Final Twitter-Vancouver thought I can come with here: The Behans. If there ever was the ‘Royal Family’ of Vancouver social media circles, they take the cake. Janis, Wes, Jordan, Alex, Jaxon… the list is long (I could continue but you get the idea). If there is a family out there with a broader social media presence, I’d love to hear about them. Not that it’s a contest or anything, but it’s bloody impressive the reach the ‘Behan’ name has in Vancouver! Smart cookies they are!

Anyways, those are my random Twitter-related thoughts for now, and some of the many folks I’m following via Twitter while on my Swedish vacation! Happy holidays everyone! And don’t forget there’s still three days left to enter the free wedding photography contest!

NBC didnt entirely steal her post. I think it was mistakenly part of a package they purchased from Vancouver Tourism (??) and forgot to give her credit. Think it's all fixed now though.

Sweden looks like it's treating you well! Definitely a place I'd love to visit!
Like this idea of this post, keep em coming periodically!

Stealing is the wrong word and I stand corrected! Thanks for pointing that out and Raincoaster's post on the subject also clears it up eh.

Sweden is unreal. Definitely a home away from home. This is a great experience so far being here for the holidays and Christmas hasn't even happened yet (apparently that's the big smoke in these here parts!)!

I'm feeling the vibe as well with this type of post. I'll pop one up when the timing feels right. Thanks again for viewing Tyler!!!!!!

Thanks for the #behanpower love! I need to do a post like this too. I'm a lazy blogger.

The #behanpower has a 1 ( I think ? ) year old with a website and a Twitter account. 'Nough said….

Get bloggin' sista'! I know I'd be viewing it! Lazy or not fire up something every now and again!

Glad you checked out this lil'old blog though eh!

From what Rebecca told me, she had an exclusive contract with Tourism Vancouver, one which specifically denied either party the right to repackage and repost the content. So the problem is not just with NBC, which deceptively attempted to hide her credit, but also with Tourism Vancouver, who appear to be in breech of contract. Rebecca is not a vindictive person, however, and she seems content to have her name (in tiny font, unlinked) back on the NBC website.

It is my impression that when she first raised the issue with Tourism Vancouver, they didn't come clean about their part in this. I may be mistaken, but I don't think I am.

Beautifully put Raincoaster!

Vindictive isn't a word I've ever heard associated with Rebecca, and anyone with much between their ears would act the same way as she has in this case.

Why do I have a feeling more stuff like this will happen as the Olympics creep up?

Thanks a lot for explaining eh!!
