Allan Cole Roberts bio picture

About

My name is Allan Cole Roberts, but 99.9% of the time, I'm refered to as Cole. Photography is something I have always been involved with, and that is due mostly to my mother, April. She's a heck of a photographer and is the one who planted the bug in my ear to pursue it as a profession.

People are my favourite muses, and I primarily do portrait photography. Along with this, I do weddings and commercial photography.

I am based out of Vancouver although I am a travel nut and don't mind taking jobs on that invovle hitting the road. My partner for projects is Jakob Granqvist, so if you book me for anything, then you'll get the both of us snapping away pictures. He looks like Brad Pitt, so he's a good guy to have along.

Equipment-wise, I'm a Nikon fan. Outside of photography, I'm a hockey fella' who had an interesting junior career and was suitcased all over the place. After hockey, I completed a masters degree in business over in Sweden, which is where I met my lovely girlfriend Therese (whom I coaxed over to Vancouver from her hometown of Söderhamn, Sweden).

Sunglasses Don’t Belong In Portraits | 13 Pictures of Therese Larsson

Call me old fashioned, but portrait shoots where people are wearing sunglasses are lame. I like seeing peoples eyes in the pictures, and it’s up to the photographer to make those eyes POP in pictures. So sunglasses sort of kill that challenge in a way.

So I decided to make an entire post with Therese wearing her sunglasses, just for the hell of it. These are 13 different pictures taken from our little walk today. She’s usually much happier then this – but I asked her not to smile :)

Say *CHEESE* Therese!

[ Oh - and the seventh and twelfth ones down are my favourite - if you have one I'd love to read your comment on which one it is! ]

Pysha - really random you did this sunglass thing....the photos i just took have sunglasses, because she doesn't like her eyes in pictures...she refused to take them off...but I completely agree with you......February 4, 2010 - 14:02

mom - 7.........February 5, 2010 - 08:13

urban daisy - Mmm. 12. I like the background: interesting, without overwhelming her. 6 would be my second choice, can't really say why. However, I can't help thinking of the waste. From memory of your past pictures, this woman has gorgeous eyes. It should be a crime for her to wear sunglasses, never mind be photographed in them.February 5, 2010 - 13:12

Cole - @ mom | 7 is mine too :)February 5, 2010 - 13:28

Cole - @pysha | well if someone doesn't like their eyes, they don't like their eyes and there's not much you can do! I think eyes make the pictures though (not for my set here though obviously :) )February 5, 2010 - 13:29

Cole - @UD | I'm diggin 12 as well - cool background colour indeed! I guess for this point I was peacefully protesting against sunglasses in pictures so had her wear hers :) but you certainly have a memory like an elephant because she does has wonderful bluey grey eyes - So perhaps meandering around and redoing this whole set with no glasses is in order! Thanks again for commenting - appreciate it!February 5, 2010 - 13:31

urban daisy - The set without the sunnies would be fun, but I don't think you should put her in front of the noisy/loud backgrounds because her appeal (subjective, of course!) is in her understated beauty: the delicate kind, not the bold sort. After another look at them, I think the reason I like #6 is the head angle. It has less of the mug shot quality (no, um, intention to cast derision on the others!) and the angle gives more interest. Combined with the plainer background, it makes a better showcase for your processing. Now, see, I can be as loquacious as blog etiquette will allow, because I'm sure Therese will be retaining you as her photographer regardless of public reaction to her pics. ;)February 6, 2010 - 01:37

gabe - 7. looks like a giant face in space. and if i had to pick a person's face to make giant in space, i wouldn't be upset with ThereseFebruary 26, 2010 - 21:15
